Holiday Letter from Our President

Our Valued Customers:

I just wanted to take a few minutes to catch up with some of the valuable customers we
have been blessed to form relationships with over the years. Despite the current economy, we have
been on a growing spree and we realized that some of the aspects of our service have wavered in
recent days. As we get our feet back under us and learn to handle the new challenges this growth
brings, I would like to express a loud thank you for all the opportunities we have been given and
assure everyone that the best is yet to come from National Security and Door. Whether you’re a new
customer or and old friend the following is a bit of history to explain how we got to the place we find
ourselves today.

National Key and Lock Security Corporation incorporated in June of 1981. Founded by
Richard and Scott Childress, it began as a simple locksmithing company. Richard graduated from
University of Richmond and Scott from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, they used Dick’s experience in
teaching and locksmithing as well as Scott’s experience in the commercial insurance community to
launch the venture. We primarily did residential and automobile lock work while working from our
homes, all the while knocking on doors in efforts to break into the commercial market. It was a slow
process, acquiring inventory and equipment in the climate of a 21 percent interest rate on our first
commercial business loan. Never the less, the plan began to work as we made our first major
commercial customer, DuPont, and began a long standing relationship that is still in effect today.
The skills we developed while servicing hardware and doors while locksmithing built a solid
foundation for the company that was beginning to take shape.

The business doesn’t look quite the same as it did back then. Hence, we began trading as
National Security and Door Corp in order to better reflect the type of business we were becoming. A
few years later, we met the owners of Basic Products, Jim and Mark Longest. Basic Products was a
strong service based hollow metal door company. Years later, when Jim Longest decided to retire,
we were able to bring the two companies together. Along with the younger Mark Longest we
acquired his vast knowledge of the hollow metal door business. By this time, National Security and
Door had developed a strong base in the electronic hardware and access control market as well as
a growing base in the aluminum storefront market. This expansion allowed us to provide better and
broader products and services to each customer base.

We next teamed with Jason Price, owner of Price Door and Security, who offered a solid
background in commercial doors and detention hardware. Once again we gained valuable
experience and another piece to the “total opening” concept we desired for our customers. Our
business today is primarily commercial and consists of a wide variety of products and services.
We have now grown to over 30 employees working from our own building located in Chesterfield
County on nearly five acres of land. From here we run our own full service hollow metal and
aluminum fabrication shop. Our inventory of doors and hardware has grown over our 27 years from
six deadbolts and a box of key blanks to hundreds of various doors and frames, stock length metals
for custom fabrication jobs and locking hardware to accommodate most any configuration needed.
We have developed direct relationships with a number of manufactures giving us the ability to offer
competitive pricing in large and small size projects.

Our expertise in system design and installation for the growing world of electronic access
sets us apart from our competition. Electronic access is the future and we have been involved with it
from the beginning. Proper door and frame preparation along with the correct hardware to meet
egress and ADA codes is essential to maintaining budgets and schedules on all projects. We pride
ourselves on understanding the whole process; not just a part of it. We have the products and the
personnel to do the job right the first time. Our trained technicians offer quality work that we are
proud to stand behind.

We take pride in being one of the few companies to take the “total opening” approach to
doors and hardware. We now offer sales, service and in house installation for hollow metal doors
and frames, aluminum storefront, curtain walls, automatic sliding doors, low energy handicap door
operators, CCTV, both PC based and stand alone access controls systems, and all the electrical
hardware to accommodate any application. Regardless of weather it’s new construction, renovation
or simple repair we have the ability to service our customers with fair pricing and timely
installations.

We have a commitment to provide our customers the best service available and a depth of
products that will accommodate any project demands from simple to complex. We are working out
the bumps in the road along the way and greatly appreciate each and every customer we meet on
the journey. Please do not hesitate to call us when things don’t go as expected; as we may not
know something is broken until it is pointed out. I promise we will fix our faults when brought to our
attention. We will continue to strive to be the best “total opening” door company with service,
product depth, and price. We look forward to a bright future as we continue to grow and expand.
Thank you for the confidence you have shown in National Security and Door and we will continue to
work hard to earn that trust. Happy Holidays.

Sincerely,
Scott Childress
President
